WHAT TO EXPECT
Initial assessment
The initial assessment is a time for us to explore the issues you want to work on, and get to know you. We will ask about your medical history and create a personal plan for your acupuncture treatments.
Acupuncture treatment
Needle Insertion:
You'll be asked to lie down or sit comfortably.
The acupuncturist will then insert very thin, sterile, single-use needles into specific acupuncture points on your body.
The needles are typically inserted quickly and shallowly. Most people report feeling little to no pain, or perhaps a brief, mild sensation.
Needle Manipulation:
Once the needles are inserted, the acupuncturist may gently manipulate them by twirling or slightly moving them. In some cases, mild electrical stimulation or heat may be applied to the needles.
Needle Retention:
The needles are usually left in place for 30 minutes, during which time you'll be encouraged to relax.
Needle Removal:
The acupuncturist will carefully remove the needles.
Post-Treatment Advice:
You may receive advice on lifestyle changes, dietary recommendations, or other self-care practices to support the treatment.
Follow-up Appointments:
The acupuncturist will discuss a follow-up treatment plan, which may involve a series of sessions depending on your condition.
